The Long Night is Ernst Israel Bornstein's first-hand account of what he witnessed in seven concentration camps. Written with remarkable insight and raw emotion, The Long Night paints a portrait of human psychology in the darkest of times. Bornstein tells the stories of those who did all they could do to withstand physical and psychological torture, starvation, and sickness, and openly describes those who were forced to inflict suffering on others. The narrative is simple, yet profound; unbridled, honest, and dignified. The Long Night is the extraordinary tale of Ernst Israel Bornstein's tortuous passage through a number of Nazi camps. What he endured reminds us that there were many different experiences of the camps and that there is no single Holocaust narrative. Most of the camps to which Dr Bornstein was sent remain little known today, yet they remind us of just how widespread, vast and destructive the brutal camp system was.
With introduction from former Prime Minister, David Cameron.

I have read many books on the holocaust and will continue to do so. This is one of the most incredible survival stories I have read and so well written. I read it from cover to cover in one day. I couldn't put it down. I couldn't rest until it was finished and I knew he was free. How such an innocent young boy, and so many others, endured so much and still managed to survive, just astounds me. It humbles me to him and the many millions of Jews that suffered so much at the hands of the evil Nazi regime. I believe we all have an obligation to learn as much as we can about this horrific time in history. It makes me ashamed of the human race that people turned their backs on this terrible situation and that some even refuse to believe it ever really happened. This dreadful part of history should be taught in all schools. It should be remembered always. So that it is never allowed to happen again.Product details

The Long Night A True Story (Audible Audio Edition) Ernst Israel Bornstein Ric Jerrom Audible Studios Books Reviews
It was very detailed in describing the mental and physical inflictions on all of those kept captured the Germans during WW!!. My heart and mind could not believe that anyone could inflict such pain on another human being, I know that it is a true story so that makes it much more believable.
Moving and different than other holocaust memoirs because of its inclusion of insights in to how evil can visit ALL humans. Rather than us being able to reassure ourselves that this type of evil is restricted to Nazis, it forces you to question your own moral fortitude and requires a thoughtful reader to be ever vigilant against falling into the trap of these types of demons. Unfortunately, this is a message we need to be hearing again in these times.
Dr Bornstein tells of his traumatic journey through Nazi Germany and Polish concentration camps during WWII. I could visualize the horrors of everyday events that went on for several years. He escaped murder several times by making wise decisions continuously and especially at key moments. If you read only one book about the holocaust, this book reveals the most. It also answers the questions about why so many people were captured and murdered by the Nazis and their partners in crime. Simply put, Hitler's criminals were master's at deceiving the world at what was being done.
This rating is awarded to this compelling book because the text is raw truth told by a lonely survivor. There is no relief from the ugly reality of man's inhumanity to man. You cheer his survival time & time again only to expect anyone else to to succumb to the bestiality of the Nazis & those just trying to survive. You cannot fathom the desperation but you can be surprised that good men behaved so horribly toward other human beings. It's a hard but necessary work of non-fiction every thinking person should read.
A most unique and different view of a Holocaust survivor. Good to see a different viewpoint without the war, political or economic factors. At end of the book I have gained a renewed and deeper appreciation for all those that lost their lives and especially those that carry these horrible memories. The story should be shared with a wide audience. Never forget!
This Holocaust survival story was written by a highly gifted individual (soon after his liberation, he completed two Doctor degrees in both Dentistry and Medicine) who spent his youth in seven concentration camps in Poland and Germany. Perhaps because I read many books by survivors before, I appreciated the crisp, clear style, the meticulous details, and, particularly, the brilliant analysis of the events. One of the reviewers, whose review appears at the very beginning of the book, describes the book as an analysis of the Sociology of the Holocaust. Indeed, the book discusses not only WHAT happened inside the horrible world of the concentration camps but also the internal social dynamics, the WHY of what happened. You can say that the book was written by a brilliant social scientist trapped in an impossible situation and determined to survive. And, yes, to a large extent, it was the intelligence of the author (and a lot of luck) that helped him survive. You won't be able to stop reading this book and you will find it difficult to believe that it is all true. Excellent read. Highly recommended.
This is a story which should be read by all. It is such a contrast of his courage and fortitude against the hatred , and evil of Nazi Germany. In order to honor the deceased, one needs to read of the horrific past. The world should remember so that we do not repeat or allow someone to repeat this past. Man has such potential of strength, courage and love but also the potential of such hatred and evil. We must speak for those whose voices have been silenced.
